  • "People like Derek ... can be lots of fun. Except when you pop their bubble about their unrealistic grandiosity and their irresponsibility. Then you become a "wet blanket." • "Boundaries are a "litmus test" for the quality of our relationships...So what does Debbie, whose husband is an avowed "boundary buster," do? Will her husband carry out his threat to walk out on her? He might. We can't control the other person. But if the only thing keeping Debbie's husband at home is her total compliance, is this a marriage at all?" Boundaries, by Cloud & Townsend

Note: Be careful where to go to for your news. The following quote is from David Rockefeller's Memoirs:

"We are grateful to the Washington Post, the New York Times, Time Magazine and other great publications whose directors have attended our meetings and respected their promises of discretion for almost 40 years......It would have been impossible for us to develop our plan for the world if we had been subjected to the lights of publicity during those years. But, the world is more sophisticated and prepared to march towards a world government. The supernational sovereignty of an intellectual elite and world bankers is surely preferable to the national autodetermination practiced in past centuries.” - David Rockefeller (Source)

Here is a related quote - I think - the book, Deep Truth: The Lives of Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein:

"Whenever you run a clandestine operation, you run two things at the same time: you prepare the team for the hit, and you keep it so small there's nobody to spread it all around. And across the hall is a big staff working on what we call special plans. They're preparing the cover story. The cover story is what they want people to believe and to talk about, and to argue about." - From a 1992 speech by Col. Fletcher Prouty, former chief of special operations, Joint Chief of Staff

Daily Sermon for the Hearing Impaired: To Be or Not to Be

To Be or Not to Be, by Joe W Allen [Text: Ezekiel]

Note: This daily sermon for the hearing impaired is dedicated to my good friend, David J. Bishop, who went home to be with his Lord Jesus on July 1, 2021. David was the inspiration for me to begin posting links to sermons for the hearing impaired. David's not deaf anymore. And the first words he heard were from our Lord Jesus, saying to him, "Well done, David, thou good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of thy Lord!" [Matthew 25:21]

Here is one of the last pictures David sent to me before he died. He was a big sports fan and LOVED the Seattle Seahawks! He was also a BIG baseball fan. I'm sure if David had been able to hear he would have loved the song, Take Me Out to the Ball Game! But David loved our Lord Jesus much, much, much more than any sporting event!

Westminster Shorter Catechism Q & A #56-60

 The following is from thewestminsterstandard.org:

Q. 56. What is the reason annexed to the third commandment?
A. The reason annexed to the third commandment is, that however the breakers of this commandment may escape punishment from men, yet the Lord our God will not suffer them to escape his righteous judgment.

Q. 57. Which is the fourth commandment?
A. The fourth commandment is, Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work: but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy man-servant, nor thy maid-servant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath-day, and hallowed it.

Q. 58. What is required in the fourth commandment?
A. The fourth commandment requireth the keeping holy to God such set times as he hath appointed in his Word; expressly one whole day in seven, to be a holy Sabbath to himself.

Q. 59. Which day of the seven hath God appointed to be the weekly Sabbath?
A. From the beginning of the world to the resurrection of Christ, God appointed the seventh day of the week to be the weekly Sabbath; and the first day of the week, ever since, to continue to the end of the world, which is the Christian Sabbath.

Q. 60. How is the Sabbath to be sanctified?
A. The Sabbath is to be sanctified by a holy resting all that day, even from such worldly employments and recreations as are lawful on other days; and spending the whole time in the public and private exercises of God’s worship, except so much as is to be taken up in the works of necessity and mercy.

Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God, by Jonathan Edwards (1703-1758)

Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God, by Jonathan Edwards (1704-1758)

The following quote is from Jonathan Edwards (1703-1758) sermon:

"It would be dreadful to suffer this fierceness and wrath of Almighty God for one moment; but you must suffer it to all eternity. There will be no end to this exquisite horrible misery. When you look forward, you shall see a long forever, a boundless duration before you which will swallow up your thoughts, and amaze your souls, and you will absolutely despair of ever having any deliverances, any end, any mitigation, any rest at all; and you will know certainly that you must wear out long ages, millions and millions of ages, in wrestling and conflicting with this Almighty merciless vengeance; and then when you have so done, when many ages have actually been spent by you in this manner, you will know that it is all but a point to what remains. So that your punishment will indeed be infinite."

"I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star. And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely. For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book. If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book. And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things that are written in this book. Daily Quote for Thursday, September 28, 2023

From Spurgeon's Sermon Notes:

"A lady, who heard [George] Whitfield, in Scotland, preach upon the words, 'And the door was shut,' being placed near two dashing young men, but at a considerable distance from the pulpit, witnessing their mirth; and overheard one say, in a low tone to the other, 'Well, what if the door be shut. Another will open.' Thus they turned off the solemnity of the text. Mr. Whitfield had not proceeded far when he said, 'It is possible there may be some careless, trifling person here today, who may ward off the force of this impressive subject, by lightly thinking, 'What matter if the door be shut. Another will open.' The two young men were paralyzed and looked at each other. Mr. Whitfield proceeded: 'Yes, another will open. And I will tell you what door it will be: it will be the door of the bottomless pit! - the door of hell! - the door which conceals from the eyes of angels the horrors of damnation!'"

Daily Sermon for the Hearing Impaired: Unifying Gifts

Unifying Gifts, by Joe W Allen [Text: Ezekiel]

Here is a quote from Howard Zinn's book, The Twentieth Century:

"A volunteer from this state of Washington wrote: 'Our fighting blood was up, and we all wanted to kill 'n***rs.' ...This shooting human beings beats rabbit hunting all to pieces.' It was a time of intense racism in the United States. In the years between 1889 and 1903, on the average, every week, two Nigroes were lynched by mobs-hanged, burned, mutilated. The Filipinos were brown-skinned and strange looking to Americans...Our men have been relentless, have killed to exterminate men, women, children prisoners and captives. Active insurgents and suspected people from lads ten up, the idea prevailing that the Philippino as such was little better than a dog..."
