Today in History - September 2

A special thanks to Wikipedia.com for following historical information. The sermons I have chosen from Sermonaudio.com

September 2

1561 - Entry of Mary, Queen of Scots, into Edinburgh, a spectacular civil celebration for the Queen of Scotland, marred by religious controversy.

John Knox has been quoted as saying (About Mary, Queen of Scots): "If you strike not the root, the branches will grow again." For information on Mary's more well-known relatives, Mary Tudor (ada Bloody Mary), Queen Elizabeth I, check out the following.

1998 - The UN's International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda finds Jean-Paul Akayesu, the former mayor of a small town in Rwanda, guilty of nine counts of genocide.

Recommended sermon: The Holocaust in Rwanda, by Dr. Peter Hammond (2017)

Here is a short excerpt: "Every genocide is always preceded by gun control."; "A 'Gun-Free' sign doesn't actually protect people. It just says, 'This is a sitting duck zone.'; Which sign is going to prevent a tragedy: 'All Weapons are prohibited on these premises', or 'Our staff is heavily armed and trained' Any attempt to harm children will be met with deadly force.?';  'What is the best way to protect your kids: A sign, or an armed teacher?';"You may not like guns, you may not like to own one; you may not like God, you may choose to exclude Him. But if someone is breaks into your home, the first thing you'll do is call someone who has a gun, and pray they'll get there in time!; "You can ban weapons but you cannot disarm evil!'"
