1974Watergate scandal: The United States Supreme Court unanimously ruled that President Richard Nixon did not have the authority to withhold subpoenaed White House tapes and they order him to surrender the tapes to the Watergate special prosecutor.

Note: I read the books, All the President's Men and The Final Days, in the late 1970s. Bob Woodward was a big hero of mine back then. But after reading Deep Truth: The Lives of Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein I've come to suspect that there was a lot more to the "investigative reporting" that ended the Nixon presidence than Americans have been led to believe. Here is a quote from this great book:
