If someone were to ask me to recommend 3 books, here's what I would say:
#1. The Holy Bible. I have a preference for the King James Version, but I think the best version is the one you read and obey!
#2. Pilgrim's Progress, by John Bunyan.
#3. None Dare Call it Conspiracy, by Gary Allen. This book was published in 1971. I first read it around 1979. And everything I have seen in American politics since then can be explained by reading this simple book. For example, people who have not read this book tend to see fascism as being on the far right and communism being on the far right, with capitalism and socialism falling somewhere in the middle. What Gary Allen says is that it is better to look at this in the following way: Limited government is on the far right and communism and fascism - total government - is on the far left. Apparently, you can buy Gary Allen's book for $68 - worth every penny. But you can also read it for free by going to NONE DARE CALL IT CONSPIRACY, by Gary Allen
